چکیده

The extraction of the gravitational wave signal, within the context of a characteristic numerical evolution is revisited. A formula for the gravitational wave strain is developed and tested, and is made publicly available as part of the PITT code within the Einstein Toolkit. Using the new strain formula, we show that artificial nonlinear drifts inherent in time integrated waveforms can be reduced for the case of a binary black hole merger configuration. For the test case of a rapidly spinning stellar core collapse model, however, we find that the drift must have different roots.

Python Open Source Waveform Extractor (POWER): An open source, Python package to monitor and post-process numerical relativity simulations

Numerical simulations of Einstein’s field equations provide unique insights into the physics of compact objects moving at relativistic speeds, and which are driven by strong gravitational interactions. Numerical relativity has played a key role to firmly establish gravitational wave astrophysics as a new field of research, and it is now paving the way to establish whether gravitational wave rad...

انقباض گرانشی یک لایه نورگونه با تقارن استوانه‌ای در خلاء

Barrabès-Israel null shell formalism is used to study the gravitational collapse of a thin cylindrical null shell in vacuum. In general the lightlike matter shell whose history coincides with a null hypersurface is characterized by a surface energy density. In addition, a gravitational impulsive wave is present on this null hypersurface whose generators admit both the shear and expansion. In ...

Gravitational-Wave Tests of General Relativity with Ground-Based Detectors and Pulsar-Timing Arrays

This review is focused on tests of Einstein's theory of general relativity with gravitational waves that are detectable by ground-based interferometers and pulsar-timing experiments. Einstein's theory has been greatly constrained in the quasi-linear, quasi-stationary regime, where gravity is weak and velocities are small. Gravitational waves will allow us to probe a complimentary, yet previousl...

Newman-Penrose quantities as valuable tools in astrophysical relativity

In this talk I will briefly outline work in progress in two different contexts in astrophysical relativity, i.e. the study of rotating star spacetimes and the problem of reliably extracting gravitational wave templates in numerical relativity. In both cases the use of Weyl scalars and curvature invariants helps to clarify important issues. INTRODUCTION The Weyl scalars the components of the Wey...

Post-Newtonian Hydrodynamic Equations Using the (3+1) Formalism in General Relativity

Using the (3+1) formalism in general relativity, we perform the post-Newtonian(PN) approximation to clarify what sort of gauge condition is suitable for numerical analysis of coalescing compact binary neutron stars and gravitational waves from them. We adopt a kind of transverse gauge condition to determine the shift vector. On the other hand, for determination of the time slice, we adopt three...
